Harvest 2016

Harvest 2016

The growing season started a little later than usual due to the cold snap in late March & April, we were fortunate to miss the late frosts which affected large parts of Europe.

The weather turned milder & wetter through to June which allowed reasonable canopy growth. It dried out from mid July & with above average temperatures in September, which continued through to early October, allowing the vines to produce some high quality fruit. We harvested the Chardonnay on 15th October & the Pinot Noir on 20th October. The yields were average for a second year crop & the quality of our grapes were again excellent this year. Both the Chardonnay & Pinot Noir grapes achieved high sugars & good acid balance. The Chardonnay grapes are perfect for Sparkling Wine; & the Pinot Noir grapes were ripened fully for a red wine.

Our team hand-picked just over 2 tonnes of grapes which were delivered directly to the winery, the Chardonnay grapes were put straight into the press; the Pinot Noir grapes were de-stemmed, crushed and left for 48 hrs before hand pressing; Red wine is left in contact with the skins to acquire its colour. The grapes grown from our Vineyards will all be pressed & bottled for our Estate wines.

We look forward to the release of our Estate Pinot Noir red wine from this vintage in June 2017 and the release of Crouch Ridge Classic Cuvée 2015 vintage, traditionally-made white sparkling wine perfect as an aperitif & any celebration in June 2017
